For my first blog I wanted to talk about what is going on in the world. This is a very scary time and everyone is trying so hard to keep a brave face. The future is not so clear and we are all hunkering down in our houses and with friends and family. We are also just tired of the fear and just want to break out from our restraints and feel free. Yayoi Kusama, sometimes known as the queen of polka dots, gives us the sense of playfulness and illusion. Creating large scale installations where patterns can blend in with each other and you can get lost.

On the streets of Malaga, Spain the women who live there crocheted and pieced together this magnificent art piece. Imagine being part of this art project. Coming together as a community and creating something so beautiful for the whole town to enjoy. This just made me so happy when I saw this picture. Notice how all the colors and designs work together. Simple Geometrics, done in the same color story can make such a beautiful looking quilt.

Some people are starting to travel again and wanting to find joy in getting out and seeing the world. This piece is creating a feeling of excitement and liveliness. We are seeing large fun installation pieces. Sometimes right out in the streets, where people can congregate and walk around them. These pieces provide us with a sense of wonder. This actual piece is designed to look like a tree made out of yarn.

A few times I have gone into a hotel and have been blown away by the artwork at the entrance or over the reception desk. It really is a wow moment and starts your vacation or work trip off with a bang. This is an example of whimsy meets the fantastic. The colors are so bold and the bird scoops you up in its arms and whisks you away.

There is nothing better than walking through a very big, long airport and having something other than sad faces to look at. There are a lot of new installation art walls and pieces popping up in huge train stations and airports. It is so nice after a long flight to just see lovely colors and designs passing you by while the people mover shuttles you from one end of the airport to another.

There is nothing like sitting outside at a hotel or restaurant and you instantly feel like you are in an art exhibition. These large scale murals are so fun to look at while enjoying a drink or just relaxing after a long day. Color therapy has been known to calm the mind and the soul. This is free therapy and I wish there were more beauties like this on buildings.
